Why do we do genetic screening?

When you donate your eggs, another family may use them to have a baby. So, of course, we want to learn as much as we can about your health and genetics. Genetic screening helps us identify whether you’re a carrier for certain inherited conditions. Being a carrier doesn’t mean you’re sick. Most carriers are perfectly healthy and have no idea they carry anything at all.

It’s simply information that helps us make the egg donation process as safe and informed as possible.

The cool part? This information is yours, too.

Maybe babies are the absolute last thing on your mind right now. We get it.

But someday, if you decide you want kids of your own, the information you learn through genetic screening could be really valuable. If you find out you’re a carrier for something, you’ll know. And down the road, you can share that information with your doctor or even have a future partner tested if that’s recommended. That’s information most women your age don’t have about themselves.
